Eligibility Criteria For Group I Exams

Candidates must possess a valid academic degree from any recognised institute or deemed university under the UGC Act. Similarly, candidates with the below qualifications will also be given preference:

Assistant Commissioner ( Commercial Taxes)

  • 1st preference: Degree in law and Commerce with Diploma or Degree in taxation laws
  • 2nd preference: Degrees in Law and Commerce
  • 3rd preference: Degree in either law or commerce with a diploma degree in taxation laws
  • 4th preference: Degree in either Law or Commerce

Deputy Superintendent of Police

  • Category – 1: Candidates who have bagged national awards for physical efficiency.

Assistant Director of Rural Development Department

  • Diploma or a PG Degree in Extension
  • A PG Degree in Rural Service from Gandhigram Rural Institute of Dindigul District
  • Diploma or PG Degree in Sociology

Age Criteria

Given below is the age criteria for all posts except the post of Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes)

  • 21 years (minimum)
  • 37 years (maximum for SC,SC(A),ST,MBC/DC,BC,BCM,DW)
  • 32 years (maximum age for other categories)

Age Criteria For Assistant Commissioner (C.T) with any degree

  • 21 Years (minimum)
  • 37 Years (maximum for SC,SC(A),ST,MBC/DC,BC,BCM,DW)
  • 32 Years (maximum age for other categories)

For candidates with a Law degree from a UGC-recognised institute

  • 21 Years (minimum)
  • 38 Years (maximum FOR SC,SC(A),ST,MBC/DC,BC,BCM,DW)
  • 33 Years (maximum age for other categories)

Age Concession

For differently-abled candidates

  • 10 years concession above the maximum age limit

For Ex-servicemen

  • 53 years maximum age for SC,SC(A),ST,MBC/DC,BC,BCM,DW) categories
  • 48 Years for other categories

Important Note

The TNPSC Group 1 Exam is also open to candidates in the qualifying year of their degree courses. Interested candidates must produce documentation to TNPSC Board from their university authority proving they are applying for the qualifying examination.

However, if you cannot submit your qualification evidence document by the prescribed date, the TNPSC examination board may reject your application.

Group I exams are conducted in three stages.
1. Preliminary Exams- Objective type questions

Aptitude & Mental Ability Test ( SSLC Standard ) 25 Questions

Total – 200 Questions

Duration: 3 Hours
Maximum marks: 300

Qualifying marks

For SC, SC (A), ST, MBC/DC, BC ( OBCM ) AND BCM): 90

For other categories: 120
